This drawing lesson will focus on how to draw an old car step by step. As an example, we decided to use a classic American car from the mid-20th century.

Of course, this is just a basic guide. Using this tutorial on how to draw an old car step by step, you can sketch any classic car of a different brand from any country, because the principles of drawing remain unchanged.
Time needed: 40 minutes.
How to draw an old car step by step
- Sketch the outlines of the body.
Use as simple and light lines as possible. At this stage, it is already necessary to create the basic outlines of the body, based on which the entire car will be built.
- Give the outlines the correct shape.
Using smooth and long lines, carefully sketch out the outlines of the roof, trunk, and hood. Next, depict the details of the front and rear of the car. Don’t forget to draw the wheel arch.
- Erase the outer lines and draw the windows.
Get rid of all unnecessary construction lines from the first step using the eraser. Next, draw the windows by using smooth lines like in our example.
- Draw the door of the old car.
As you can see, we are drawing an old classic coupe car in this tutorial. This means that we can see only one door on each side, sketch it.
- Draw the decorative elements
First, depict the long and straight molding on the side of the body. Next, sketch out decorative lines on the roof and rear of the car.
- Draw the car bumper.
You should start drawing the front bumper, then sketch out the rear. By the way, the bumpers on older cars were made of metal, unlike current cars. Don’t forget to depict the outlines of the headlights.
- Add some details.
First, sketch out the doorknob and the round door lock under the handle. After that, draw the rearview mirror and the antenna at the front of the vehicle.
- Draw the wheels of the old car.
Draw the tires using round lines, like in my example. After that, depict the outlines of the rims. They must follow the shape of the tires.
- Detail the rims.
Old classic cars were most often equipped with round chrome car hubcaps. This detail is drawn using several circles of different sizes.
- Add the shadows and highlights.
Paint the shadows like in my example, using the hatching. Start in darker areas, gradually working towards lighter ones. Don’t forget about the glare on the rims and windows.
